Yes, check out Ogle Earth post on this http://www.ogleearth.com/2006/09/wms_how_does_it.html. This WMS can be based on MapServer which can get its data from Postgresql/PostGIS.

You might also want to consider outputting to KML.

As a follow-up, I tried to use a specific address (http://activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/cgi-bin/mapserv.exe?map=canada.map&amp;) and got a response that this was not a valid wms feed yet it works in other applications that I use.
